Add Pages & Posts to Genesis Slider

genesis-responsive-slider-image

There have been many people who have asked how they can add both a Page and Post to the Genesis Slider and Genesis Responsive Slider. Below is a workaround that works great for me.

To make this work with a page –

  1. Create a Category called – “Placeholder”. Hover over it and write down the Category ID number.
  2. Create a post with the name of the PAGE you want to show up in the slider and add the Featured Image. Check the category “Placeholder”. Save and copy the URL. Do not place content in that post. Just create the title and add the Featured Image.
  3. Create the page you want – content and featured image – scroll down to “Custom Redirect URI” and put the URL of the Post you created.

Now, to keep that blank Post from being added to the Archive, do this.

  1. Grab the Category ID you wrote down for Placeholder.
  2. Go to Genesis > Theme Settings.
  3. Scroll down to Blog Page Template and place that number in the box that says “Exclude the Following Category IDs” and Save.

That’s it. It really doesn’t make sense to use this for a lot of pages, but if you only need one or two – this is a very easy way to do it.

Great workaround! Thanks for sharing — it’s very frustrating sometimes to have to choose between posts and pages for the slider.

Tried setting up this work around several times, but couldn’t get it to work. 🙁 Is there something else I should check?

Hi Neil, do you have it in place somewhere so I can take a look. Click the Tech Support tab at the top and we can troubleshoot it via email.
